Hi to the forum from Australia,
I was given this link from a Dutch collector who suggested I might be able to get some assistance from members. I'm hoping that there may be someone who would be able to answer in english as I'm sorry, I can't speak Dutch.
I've just been given the Magnavox version of the D2999 and it has been worked on in the past, a new transformer has been fitted for the Australian 240 VAC line and while the radio worked well on MW, LW and FM, the SW was dead.
I've been able to locate a broken shielded wire from the INT/EXT switch that goes to the RF stage which has got the radio working well on the external antenna but when switching to the internal telescopic antena, SW is swamped by synthesiser noises across the entire bands making it almost impossible to listen to any SW with the telescopic antenna! If anyone knows where this wire is connected near the switch end as I've taken a guess judging on the length of the wire and how it was located in the radio. If anyone has photographed the the circuit board and can email me photos, that would be a great help as I'm not that versed in reading the circuit diagram from the Service Manual.
Another problem I have is most likely caused when the power transformer has been replaced. The dial light is on permanently irrespective of the radio connected to the AC or using batteries. This will drain the batteries rapidly and I prefer to use batteries for portability and less prone to noise. Any thoughts here?
Finally, on AM narrow bandwidth, the frequency is spot on but when selecting the wide bandwidth (which seems very wide!) I have to retune down by 2 khz to peak the signal and audio. Is there a trimmer to be able to align the wide bandwith to be on the correct frequency? I have limited test equipment and expertise so any simple explaination would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for considering my questions and I look forward to any assistance from forum members.
Cheers..... Phil VK2GJF

Phil

There are 3 modes for the tuning Rotating knop.
So check if you have choosen the app. setting.
Or type in direct the frequenty wanted.
So you can check if the SW band it self is OK.
Also first wire that antenne wire correctly, probably a faulty
position will cause problems.

Antenne Wire.
After Downloading service manual go to page 9.
Left top the drawing-A is the telescope antenne drawn as a real tellescope.
Look at circle (D6) and go to drawing D-left (the board it self)
Now Look for circle (A6) at top line and see the wire position at Coil 5005.
So D6 tot A6.
And now you know also how the drawing works for the Pilotlight problem.

Service manual:
After pressing the link WAIT for the tekst "..Prossesing.." to
turn to the tekst "..Get Manual"
Then tik that text and the PDF wil open.
Or download to your Harddisk.
